EDB Project Team Visits PIEAS for Triple Helix Model Collaboration
On July 23, 2024, a team from the Engineering Development Board (EDB), comprising Engr. Muhammad Fahad (Advisor-Industrial Engineering), Engr. Ali Jawad Usmani (Advisor-Business Development) and Dr. Shahid Razzaq (Advisor-Economics), visited the prestigious Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad. The visit aimed to deliberate collaboration between EDB and PIEAS under the Triple Helix Model. The meeting was chaired by the Rector of PIEAS, Departmental Heads, Director of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), President and Vice President of Pakistan Nuclear Society (PNS). A detailed presentation on PIEAS’s capabilities and achievements was provided to the EDB and PNS teams. The EDB team presented their initiative to engage academia in strengthening Pakistan’s Engineering Sector. They discussed potential areas of collaboration, including research and development (R&D), standardization, process optimization, industrial capacity building and training, importance of compliance to Certification, implementation of Industry 4.0 and enhancing localization and promoting export growth.The Rector of PIEAS and his team expressed appreciation for the initiative and endorsed keen interest in the proposed collaboration. It was agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) would be signed between EDB and PIEAS to formalize this strategic partnership, aimed at fostering growth and innovation in the engineering sectors.Following the discussions, the Rector of PIEAS presented souvenirs to the representatives of EDB and PNS. The visit concluded with a tour of PIEAS’s state-of-the-art laboratories, where the visitors observed cutting-edge research facilities. It was agreed to implement R&D projects to support industry needs, particularly in R&D and Industry 4.0. The EDB project team expressed their gratitude for the comprehensive session with the Rector, faculty members, and the coordination efforts by PNS, recognizing the potential impact of this collaboration on Pakistan’s engineering landscape.
